USB-C

The must-have revolutionary technology for everyone

Think about how many different mobile devices you’ve had in the past 10 years? Don’t attempt to count, we’re confident you’ve had many. Now consider how many different types of USB connector cables you’ve had over this time. How many of them would fit your current devices?

Until recently there has been an inconvenient, diverse range of connectors. USB-A, USB-B, USB Micro-B, Micro-USB, Mini-USB each designed in differing shapes and sizes to fit their corresponding device port.

There was no easy way of identifying which cable belonged to any of your many devices. So, you embarked on a tedious process of elimination, causing your brain to megahertz in the process, until you found the one that fit just right, and if the USB was a flash drive, then also the right way around. The struggle was real and surely there was a simpler way? A port that was universal to all devices perhaps?

USB-C: A simple solution

The struggle is over, the simpler way has arrived.  USB-C is the new and improved, latest USB standard.  It’s designed to establish a single, standard format across all devices and spare your sanity in the process.

USB-C is set to become the universal port found on all devices. It means every cable will be the same so that it fits any of your devices, first time, every time. It’s even designed to incorporate HDMI cable connections, solving a multitude of connectivity issues for differing screens and video devices.

With a slim, oval-shaped connector, USB-C is smaller and more compact than previous USB versions. It’s also symmetrical and reversible. It has no up or down orientation, eliminating the frustration caused when cables won’t plug in. It connects to both hosts and devices and is designed to be future proof.

The improvements continue with an all-in-one power, data and video connection that reduces port and cable clutter.  A single USB-C connection can support video up to 4K (Ultra HD) resolution, audio, and up to 100W of power delivery, while improving the USB data bandwidth up to 10Gbps, which is two times faster than USB 3.0, or 20 times faster than USB 2.0.

Flexible and multipurpose

Several key features of USB-C have made it the perfect technology for the newest docking stations. Unlike USB 3.0 docking stations, the Plug & Play nature of USB-C eliminates the need for a separate software driver. IT administrators no longer need to deploy drivers to every user in their base. This greatly reduces setup time for each workstation, as well as the ongoing support time for the software driver of the docking stations.

Since USB-C is an industry standard, it can be implemented universally across different PC brands and operating systems. A single docking station can be used for every laptop, rather than being forced to use OEM-specific options, or splitting docking stations between Windows and Mac OS users.

Using only one cable allows the user to connect to a wide range of peripherals, while keeping the laptop charged if it’s designed for Power Delivery.

USB-C is unlike any of its predecessors. It’s revolutionary for businesses, increasing productivity and not to be underestimated.
