With the school holidays and winter months approaching now is a great time to get busy on your indoor arts & crafts plans. Nothing inspires creativity quite like having an easel to work on. This DIY cardboard box art easel project is an easy, long-lasting, and inexpensive way to make it easy for young artists to unleash their creativity. It’s also a great way to upcycle all those cardboard boxes!
Follow these step-by-step instructions to make your very own artist easel.
Things you need:
1. Take a large cardboard box (we have used 325W x 225D x 285Hmm) and gather your supplies (scissors or paper cutter)
2. Carefully cut off the top and bottom flaps of your box with scissors or a box cutter (save the remaining cardboard pieces for possible painting projects in the future)
3. After carefully cutting off two of the four sides. You should now have two large rectangle pieces
4. Now take duct tape and cut a long piece (about 26″)
5. Tape the ends of the 2 cardboard pieces together to make a triangle
6. Now take your double-sided tape or velcro and place on the 4 corners of the cardboard pieces
7. Now, attach duct tape to the bottom of the cardboard and place on the sticky tape or velcro, then fold the tape over in half, taping it back on the other side of the cardboard
7. Your art easel is ready to stick to the table so that it won’t move while children are painting or drawing
8. Take A3 copy paper and stick it on one side of the cardboard with the help of masking tape
8. Your easel is ready!
Your cardboard box art easel is now ready for your young artists to use! After their art session, children can easily fold up the cardboard box art easel flat and store it away. Happy Painting!
